League Rules

Rules as of 21 May 2026

Transcribed from the league's official rules document. Officer and venue contact details are deliberately omitted from the public site — reach the secretary the way you normally do.

Venues
Paddock Bowl
Bowling — the league uses lanes 9–20.
Sky Links at Buchanan
9-hole golf.
Match-night flow
  • Golf starts 5:00 PM at Sky Links at Buchanan. Both teams wait for all players to arrive; when everyone is present, the pair are next up.
  • Bowling starts 8:15 PM at Paddock Bowl. All teams must be present before bowling begins.
  • A legal team requires at least one rostered player present.
Rule 1 — Teams
  • The league consists of 10 teams of 2 players.
  • Each team is allowed two substitutes.
  • Roving substitutes are permitted.
  • Substitutes must participate in both events — golf and bowling.
Rule 2 — Schedule
Start
Monday, June 1, 2026
Length
13 weeks
Position round
Week 12
Sweeper night
Week 13 — August 24, 2026
Tie for 1st place
Roll-off held on sweeper night
Rule 3 — Scoring

Eight points per match.

  • 4 points in golf — one point for each 3 holes (three segments), plus one point for the total.
  • 4 points in bowling — one point for each game (three games), plus one point for total pins.
Averages and handicaps
  • Starting averages for golf and bowling come from each player's averages at the end of the prior season.
  • New players — with no prior bowling average or golf handicap from this league — establish their handicap on the first night. Maximum golf handicap is 50.
  • Golf handicap is 80% and bowling handicap is 90%.
  • Individual averages round down to the lowest whole number: 41.9 becomes 41.
  • Averages recalculate every week. They are running averages, not fixed for the season.
  • Sweeper night does not count toward averages — it is a throwaway night, and its scores stay out of the running average and out of the value that carries to next season (league ruling, 21 May 2026).
  • Season-high award handicaps are frozen at week 1. For the season-high handicap awards, individual and team, each entity's handicap is set once after the first night and carries the whole season — it is not the weekly running handicap used in match play. Bowling award handicaps use a base of 236, the highest first-night average; golf low-net uses the lowest first-night average, 31, as scratch. This frozen basis is readjusted only for sweeper night. Weekly match-play handicaps are unchanged.
Three consecutive absences
  • Bowling average drops 10 pins.
  • Golf average increases 3 strokes.
Rule 4 — League fees
Golf (green fees)
$20.00
Bowling fees
$18.00
Sec/Tres fees
$3.00
Prize fund
$9.00
Weekly total per player
$50.00

Of the $9 prize fund each week, $1 goes into the point-money pool that pays out at season end, split 50% / 30% / 20% to 1st, 2nd and 3rd. The remaining $8 funds the general prize pool for team and individual awards.

Other fees
  • Missed night: once a player is part of the league — which begins the first night they play — a missed night still owes the full $50 weekly fee. A rostered player who has not yet played their first night is not a member yet and is not charged the full fee.
  • Pre-paid sweeper: $50.00 per person, paid by Week 4.
  • USBC standard cards: $26.00, covering summer and winter.
  • Summer-only USBC cards: $12.00.
Optional hole-in-one pot
  • $5.00 per person, paid once at the start of the season. Participation is optional.
  • The pot is seeded once and held until a hole-in-one is scored. There are no weekly add-ons.
  • Any hole-in-one funds unclaimed at season end are added to the sweeper night closest-to-the-pin prize fund.
Optional closest-to-the-pin prizes (par-3s)
  • $5.00 per player per night, on top of the weekly fee. Participation is optional.
  • Awarded weekly to the closest-to-the-pin winners on each par-3.
  • The night's pot is divided evenly across the par-3 holes.
  • If a green is not hit on a par-3 that night, that hole has no winner, and its share of the pot is redistributed evenly across the par-3s where greens were hit. There is no carryover to the following week.
Rule 5 — Blind scores
Bowling blind
160
Golf blind
45
Rule 6 — Forfeits and the rotating blind

A team that is present plays a ghost match — either against an absent opponent, or against the rotating blind team when the league has an odd number of teams. To earn wins in either case, the present team must play within these bands of their OWN team average, not the opposing team's.

  • Golf — within 3 strokes for each 3 holes, and within 9 strokes total.
  • Bowling — within 20 pins per game, and within 60 pins total.
  • Falling outside the bands forfeits the win even though the team played alone. There are no ties on forfeits.
Rule 7 — Postponements
  • Notice must be given at least 24 hours in advance, to both the opposing captain and the league secretary.
  • The golf portion of a postponed match may be played only with the opposing team, or with a league officer accompanying the makeup.
  • Bowling before or after the scheduled night is allowed as long as proper notice is given to the league secretary.
  • A postponed match must be made up before the next week of play.
Rule 8 — Captains and money
  • Team captains are responsible for collecting their team's money and turning envelopes and score cards in to the league secretary, or the president, no later than the end of the first game of bowling.
  • No arrearages.
Rule 9 — Quitting and new members
  • Members must give two weeks' notice to the league secretary before quitting.
  • A member who quits remains responsible for the season's remaining fees unless replaced immediately.
  • No new members during the last 3 weeks unless approved by the league.
Rule 10 — Prizes and awards
  • All prizes are cash.
  • Teams are paid by number of wins — point money splits 50% / 30% / 20% to 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
  • Season-high awards are paid in four separate tracks — Golf Individual, Golf Team, Bowl Individual, Bowl Team. Golf and bowling are separate, and individual and team are separate. The same person may win an individual award and share a team award.
  • One award per entity per event. In each event an entity wins at most one award across all of that event's categories, counted separately for individual and team. Extra wins roll down to the next eligible entity, so more members share the prize fund.
  • Bowling precedence: Scratch Series, then Handicap Series, then Scratch Game, then Handicap Game. An entity keeps the highest-precedence category it tops; the rest roll down.
  • Golf precedence: Low Gross, then Low Net. Golf is a single 9-hole round, so there is no series or game distinction.
  • Handicap-award basis is frozen at week 1 — see Averages and handicaps above.
  • Ties for a high score are handled by the league as they arise, rather than by a pre-set rule.
Eligibility for sweeper night and awards
  • 8 rounds of golf played.
  • 24 games of bowling bowled.
Rule 11 — Golf course rules
  • Winter rules: a 6-inch bump is allowed, no closer to the hole, except in hazards.
  • Men under 70 play from the Blue tees. Women, and men 70 and older, play from the White tees.
  • Mid-season tee changes are allowed — a player who turns 70 during the season may switch to the white tees at their birthday. No handicap adjustment is made for the change (league ruling, 21 May 2026).
Rule 12 — Score cards and on-course rulings
  • When the league has an uneven number of teams, the team playing the blind team goes out first.
  • Both teams are suggested to keep a score card.
  • Official score cards must be signed by both team captains. The team holding the official card turns it in to the league secretary before the end of the first game of bowling.
  • All putts must be putted out — no gimmies.
Maximum score per hole
  • Five over par is the maximum. A player must pick up at 5 over par.
Lost ball and out of bounds
  • A lost ball in the fairway, or out of bounds, is treated as a lateral hazard with a 1-stroke penalty.
  • First lost or OB ball on a hole: you are hitting 3 — your original shot plus the penalty, so your next ball from the drop is your third.
  • Second lost or OB ball on the same hole: you are hitting 5, by the same arithmetic applied again.
  • No provisional ball.
  • Three minutes maximum to look for a lost ball.
  • Both teams must agree on the drop of a lost ball.
  • If a ball is picked up by someone other than the league, take a free drop nearest where it is believed to have been.
Course-specific rulings at Sky Links
  • Lake bed between holes 4 and 9 is played as a lateral hazard, per the course's own rules.
  • The 8th hole has an out of bounds behind the green.
  • Protected fences on holes 4, 7, 8 and 9: two club lengths relief, no closer to the hole.
  • Paved road: one club length drop, and you must play off the hard pan lie.
Rule 13 — Sanction and rule sources
  • This league is sanctioned.
  • Rules not covered here are governed by the current USBC Rules and the current USGA Rules.
Rule 14 — Alternates
  • If you need an alternate, notify the secretary the week before.
